Beginner Build (Witch Staff)
A forgiving first build on the Witch's Staff. Lean on Omega moves, a strong defensive god, and one clear damage status while you learn Magick and Sprint.
At a glance
| Damage source | Witch’s Staff Omega Attack projectile plus one god status (Aphrodite Weak or Hestia Scorch are easy to read). |
| Comes online | Immediately. This is your starting weapon and a default core. |
| Core boon | Any Attack or Special boon that fits one status, plus a defensive boon early. |
| Good weapons | Witch’s Staff. Branch out once comfortable. |
What this build is
A safe core for your first runs. The Witch’s Staff has balanced range, a quick melee, and a strong Omega projectile, so you do not have to be aggressive or precise. The plan is simple: pick one god status, take defensive boons when offered, and learn the two big mechanics (Magick and Sprint) before you chase anything fancy.
Gods and boons to prioritize
| Priority | God | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | Aphrodite (Weak) or Hestia (Scorch) | One readable status. Weak lowers enemy damage; Scorch is damage over time. Either is forgiving. |
| Defense | Athena (deflect) | Deflect turns ranged rooms from lethal to easy. The single best safety boon for new players. |
| Sustain | Poseidon or Demeter | Max health, knockback, or chill to control crowds. |
| Filler | Anything on-status | Keep stacking your one status rather than grabbing off-build rares. |
Daedalus Hammer to look for
Take the Witch’s Staff Hammer upgrade that improves your main attack pattern, for example one that widens or adds projectiles to the Omega Attack. A Hammer can outweigh two or three god boons, so grab the one that fits your status engine and skip the rest.
Arcana Cards note
Equip cards within your Grasp budget that raise survivability and boon quality. Unlock and upgrade what you can afford, and mind card adjacency, since some cards interact on the grid. See Arcana Cards.
Keepsake and Hex
- Keepsake: a starter Keepsake that boosts your chosen god’s appearance rate, so you find your status boons faster.
- Selene Hex: a defensive or crowd-control Hex such as a slow effect. Treat it as a panic button. See Selene and Hexes.
Do this in order
- Equip the Witch’s Staff and a Keepsake for the god whose status you want.
- In the first room, take a damage boon for your status, then defense (Athena deflect) when offered.
- Use Omega Attack freely inside a room. Magick refills when you enter the next room, so do not hoard it.
- Hold Dash to Sprint for repositioning. Do not try to double-dash like in the first game.
- Take the matching Daedalus Hammer when you see it.
- Save your Hex for emergencies, not for trash.
Watch out for
- Channeling Omega moves while surrounded. You are vulnerable mid-cast, so cast with space.
- Spam-dashing. The single Dash is delayed; Sprint is your movement tool.
- Chasing off-build rare boons. Commit to one status.
- Hoarding Magick. It resets each room, so spend it.
Tier and “strong” claims shift with balance patches.
